Snow City Arts Foundation offers children educational workshops in creative writing, music, and the visual arts. We inject all of these programs, personnel, and resources into the daily operation of each hospital we serve. Children in our program regularly get to work one-on-one with an Artist-in-Residence for several hours every week, most often at bedside or in Snow City Arts' Idea Lab. All patients are encouraged to take part regardless of illness or length of stay.
In our Creative Writing Workshop, we use the written word to spark young imaginations. Whether they are reading, or writing poetry or short stories, children learn the power of self-expression. As they find their voice, children also find they are improving spelling and grammar skills, and expanding their vocabulary. Learn more.
Young ones learn to find rhythms and beats while older kids learn to play instruments. As children in our Music Workshop learn to play an instrument, we also teach them how to write, mix, and digitally record their own songs. We even wheel computers to a patient's bedside so all kids can participate. Learn more. Learn more.
Painting and drawing techniques, art history, computer-aided art, and digital photography are some of the skills taught in our Visual Arts Workshop. Those in our Young Directors Program learn how to make short films. Videos created by our children have been accepted to the Chicago International Children's Film Festival. Learn more.

The Idea Lab is Snow City Arts' creative resource center for patients at Rush Children's Hospital.
A medical free zone equipped with computers, a piano, as well as small music and reading libraries, the Idea Lab is designed as a safe-haven in the hospital where children can come to work on a poem, play an instrument, work on a film, or simply read a book.
