Through our Music Workshop, children now use hours in the hospital to learn how to play the guitar or piano. Children who have never picked up an instrument, have left our Workshop and the hospital with the new ability to play. Our Musicians-in-Residence also teach children to read sheet music, compose songs, and learn the history of musical genres.
Younger children explore elements of music and composition through rhythm exercises while older patients become involved in music theory. Our Musicians-in-Residence also teach children to read sheet music, compose songs, as well as to record and digitally mix songs. Many of our Musicians-in-Residence join us through a partnership with the DePaul University School of Music.
Sound Effects As part of a collaboration with Columbia College Chicago's Audio Arts and Acoustics program, patients learned how to capture and transform the many sounds that surrounded them from machines pumping and alarms beeping, to intercoms, and the swish of automatic doors. The result is Sound Effects, a compact disc of original music and a remarkable audio journey that delves the depths of the adolescent hospital experience. The disc is now available in our online store.

When their hospital stays end, Snow City Arts Foundation also works to keep the instruments in the hands of the children. Through our unique Play On Program (POP), Snow City Arts Foundation gives newly refurbished acoustic guitars free of charge to inspired children to take home with them permanently so they may continue to learn the instrument. |

POP is the brainchild of Rex Jones at Medtar, Inc. who donates many of the instruments used by our children. Do you have a used or previously loved instrument you would like to donate to our Play On Program? Learn more about Medtar at www.medtar.com or send them an e-mail at medtar@comcast.net. |
